A tale of two Americans who fell into comas abroad. One has been covered extensively by the mainstream news media recently.  “In a news conference Thursday, doctors called (Otto Warmbier’s) condition “unresponsive wakefulness,” and revealed he had suffered significant brain damage during his imprisonment (in North Korea).”   http://edition.cnn.com/2017/06/16/us/otto-warmbier-profile/index.html   But in February 2015, an American went into a coma after being arrested by six Tokyo police officers and died about a month later in a Tokyo hospital. The story was not even covered by the English language news media, except for one local entertainment tabloid and a few Japan-related websites (and Progressive News Service). The Wall Street Journal ran the story, but only in its Japanese language edition! More than two years later, we still do not know that man’s name, and I am still waiting for a response from the State Department to my April 2015 Freedom of Information Act request for details about the incident.
